Things have been crazy around here for the last couple of weeks. Greg's mom was here visiting all last week, so there was shopping and site-seeing and cooking galore. Then Greg's sister brought her two boys up from NC to help us celebrate Irene's sweet sixteen. We went to a Japanese restaurant and sat at one of the hibachi tables where they cook the food right in front of you. This was a perfect way to entertain everyone, from the eight year-olds to Granny. We had a great time!
The next day was our baptisms, and I wish I had pictures to post, but Greg was busy doing video and his mom hasn't uploaded her pics from her trip yet. As soon as I get pics I'll post 'em. I'd post the video, but I can't humiliate Irene or myself like that! LOL! Irene had a wardrobe malfunction (her brown bathing suit was COMPLETELY visible benath her white robe which was clinging to her as she climbed up out of the water. I changed my mind at the last minute and opted to wear tan shorts and a white t-shirt, which eliminated that problem for me, thankfully. It's one thing to have the entire congregation see you in your bathing suit when you have Irene's figure and an entirely different thing when you have my figure ;)
I humiliated myself in a totally different way. You see, the baptismal was been broken at our church for the last two years (basically since the church was built- it broke and flooded the new church on like week three) and they just got it repaired. We were very thankful to be able to be baptized in it instead of our local lake. However.... the heating element isn't fixed yet and that water was COLD. I mean COLD, people. This wasn't like turning your faucet to cold and taking a shower. This was like having barely above freezing water pumped out of the lake and into a tub. I was not prepared for the water to be that cold! When I was dunked under the water, it completely took my breath away so that I was gasping when I came up. To make matters worse, of course the congregation was clapping for me and I wasn't sure if I should stay and smile or just leave the baptismal. I decided to leave since I was freezing to death, but what is caught on film is gasping, awkward smiling not-quite-to-the-audience, and then hasty exit.... It's hysterical and so, so embarassing!
It was a beautiful moment, though, and I will treasure it always. I'm so glad Irene and I got to experience it together!
Speaking of Irene, I'm missing her today. Her Granny took her back to Texas with her for the next couple of weeks. The house is so empty without her. It's amazing how much I miss her already and she's only been gone two days.

I was going to post some pics, but blogger seems to be having issues at the moment, so I'll post them later on.

Wow, girl! I'll call you soon!
How wonderful & beautiful. Everytime someone is baptized at my church I get so teary when they come back up out of the water... realizing it symbolizes the death of the old self, and the rising of the new self in Christ!!!
