Ok, my dear friends, I need some help! I want to make tamales for Christmas Eve, as is tradition in Guatemala, but I cannot find the chiles I need at any of our hispanic grocery stores here. Anyone willing to do a little looking around for me? I need the chiles ASAP because I had hoped to make the tamales next week. Why make them so early? Well, we'll be out of town for several days over Christmas, so I hope to freeze the tamales and just transport them in a ice chest. Plus my mom is coming next week for a visit and she wanted to learn to make them. So, what I need is several chiles guaque and chiles pasa. Chiles pasa are different than pasilla which are commonly found in most hispanic grocers. Help! I'll reimburse anyone all expenses associated (buying and shipping), plus share with them my secret and very authentic recipe! Email me at sharonj78@gmail.com if you have any luck. Sound good? On your mark, get set, GO!

You can usually special order stuff like that from your local grocer. It's worth a try!
I'll have my mom check (she's in Dallas TX) at their hispanic grocery stores - I'll also have my friend in Austin check. No promises, but I'm sure they won't mind going to look!

So far, no luck. Sorry.

Mission accomplished! They are in the mail. It was REALLY helpful to take the right person with me to the store!
